The brilliant, Swords Rex is now a dual classic winner after a thoroughly professional and worthy victory in the Bresbet Easter Cup at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

Rex, and kennel mate Galloping Sydney, set the pace into the opening turn but it was the former who held his position on the inside rail to take a significant advantage as they turned for the far side. Despite edging off slightly, Swords Rex opened up a decisive lead by the second turn.

Galloping Sydney gave chase down the back straight but Swords Rex was not for stopping as he continued his relentless gallop in front. Trinity Junior was third behind Swords Rex and Galloping Sydney to this point but Toolmaker Wilde was now starting to make up ground, passing Romeo Magico on the third turn to go fourth.

Rex crossed the line with four lengths to spare over Toolmaker Wilde in 29.71.

After capturing the Kirby Memorial last year, Swords Rex raced to a second classic success. The brilliant son of  Droopys Sydney and Starry Display crossed the line with four lengths to spare over Toolmaker Wilde in 29.71. Trinity Junior ran a big race to finish just a half-length away in third.
