Swords Rex was crowned the 2022 Con & Annie Kirby Memorial Champion on Friday evening, securing the team’s first ever success of this prestigious race.

A level break saw this hugely talented field stride for stride in the opening yards but great acceleration from Swords Rex, up the rail, saw him take control into the first turn. Out the second bend and he now had a two length advantage, pulling further away along the far side he put more daylight between him and the field, extending to four lengths or so he was cruising out in front. He maintained this advantage out in front and crossed the line in a brilliant 28.27 ahead of runner up Magical Kuba.

The brilliant son of Droopys Sydney and Starry Display, owned by Barbara Lowndes, adds to his success of the landing the Rural Kennels Unraced at Clonmel earlier and looks set to compete at the very top levels in the months ahead!
