The weekend started well with 2 qualifiers for the next round of the ECC Timber Champion Puppy 525 Stake at Shelbourne on Thursday evening. Quick Blaze was looking to follow up his impressive debut run from last week. Breaking slightly behind the eventual winner he looked like he was just about to edge it round the first turn but for bumping. Up the back straight he found himself in the group of 3 where he had to show bravery and force his way up the inside to run on for second place. In the final heat, Elevenrife, showed good early pace to force his way round the first turn just in front before quickly opening up a commanding  lead. He ran on to eventually score by a comfortable 3.5 lengths in 28.57.

Unfortunately, both Quick Blaze and Elevenerife are drawn together in next weeks Semi Finals.

On to a busy Saturday where we were represented at both Cork and Shelbourne. At Cork, Leeview Lady started the night off with a bang with a superb run in a tough A1, going on to score by 3.5 lengths in 28.59. Sidarian Lisa made her presence felt in the Barrys Tea Open 750. Trapping well, she led early before being passed, staying in contention she showed fantastic pace into the 5th bend to take command again and go on to score by 4.5 length.

Over at Shelbourne we had the in form Coolavanny Pandy and Brenval Star in the Sporting Press Irish Oaks. Brenval Star overcame an early bump at opening turn to run on for second and qualify for next week’s second round. It was much the same for Coolavanny Pandy who also finished 2nd, by a just a neck. Both are safely through to next weeks second round which is the main goal at these early stages.

Sunday at Clonmel was the Quarter Finals of the Produce Stakes where we had 3 runners, aswell as 2 others in a graded competition. Ardnacrusha Lady went in the A3 550 Stake. Encountering trouble at the second turn she ran on for second and progresses to next weeks final. In the other semi final, Coran Sky, justified heavy favoritism when scorching round in 29.91 by 3.5 lengths.

The Produce Stakes Quarters saw Sidarian Blitz and Riverside Pat drawn together. From trap rise Blitz was immediately crowded and on the back foot before getting more crowding at the first turn whilst Pat stuck to the rails and managed to get a run round the first turn.  Once round Pat managed to pass the second placed dog going down to the third turn before sticking to the rails around the last 2 turns and running on for 2nd, going down by 1.5 lengths. Runaway Rover went round second in his heat after a messy opening turn but found trouble before the 6 dog crossed paths and climbed all over his back end, entering the back straight, to hamper his chances on the evening.
