We sent two teams to Limerick and Shelbourne on Saturday evening and returned home with some nice winners including a hat-trick of Easter Cup heat successes and a double in the feature Semi Finals at Limerick.
The opening Selachii Legal Open 525 Semi Final saw Romeo Speedy show a nice bit of early pace to lead into the opening turn and take up the running. Out the second bend he continued to move well extending the lead before turning for home, despite coming under late pressure, he stayed on well to score by a length and half in a good 28.89. Newinn Taylor extended his unbeaten run to seven as he was an emphatic winner of the second Semi Final. Breaking smartly, showing good early gears, he took control of the contest early on. Building up an unassailable lead out in front he was never troubled, eventually crossing the line seven lengths in front in a fast 28.38.
We sent out a fine hat-trick of Easter Cup winners at Shelbourne where Wolfe, Ballydoyle Valor and Murts Boher landed victories, whilst Sweep The Yard beat a highly competitive field on the supporting card. Wolfe, on the back of some sensational trials in recent weeks, set the pace early on in Heat 2. Breaking well, and quickly asserting round the first two bends he soon found himself out in front and cruising. Stretching further away from the chasing pack he stopped the clock in 29.61 with six lengths to spare. Heat 3 saw Ballydoyle Valor record the round quickest 29.56 as he followed up last week’s impressive victory at Limerick. Holding a middle course on the run up, whilst those around jostled for their preferred racing lines, he moved to the front of the pack into the bend and took up the running. Flying down the far side he ran out an impressive six and half length winner.
Murts Boher completed the Heat hat-trick as he scored in Heat 4. Grabbing a narrow lead from kennel mate Newinn Lester at the first turn, Boher led all the way from here on in and despite coming under pressure late on he held on to score by a length in 29.77. On the supporting card, Sweep The Yard finished well to reel in long time leader Patterdale Greg at the third turn, battling well he went on to record victory bu three quarters of a length in 28.58.
