It was another busy weekend for the kennels with racing Friday and Saturday evening.
Rackethall Jess, ran a brilliant race and was desperately unlucky to be beaten by the narrowest of margins in the final of the HRX Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne on Friday. Tracking the early leaders round the opening turns Jess showed brilliant back straight pace and was flying into the 3rd turn challenging for second place, here she had the door squeezed up on her and she lost her momentum. Eventually forcing her way through, she powered home but the line came just in time for Monrose, pipping Jess by a short head. Congratulations to connections of the winner who showed great determination to hold on.
At Dundalk, Riverside Chip progressed to the Semi Finals of the Bar One Racing Irish Cup. Overcoming bumping at the first turn he finshed third in his quarter final he looks to emulate his father and make next week’s Final. Riverside Oscar was unable to grab a qualifying spot and was eliminated in 4th spot.
It was back to Shelbourne on Saturday evening where we had just the one winner on the night, albeit a very good winner, where the brilliant Clares Rocket made his first appearance since finishing 3rd in the English Derby Final back in June. Pacing up well he led round the opening turn and was relentless in his pursuit of victory. Moving well throughout he stopped the clock in a fast 29.30 for the 550yrds – the fastest time of the night. We had a couple of seconds on the night with Slippery Louise maintaining her good form in the Open 550 and Kilmesson Gold was a similar story, where he was runner up in another Open 550 contest.
