The kennel were looking to follow up last weekends successful results with runners at Limerick, Cork and Harolds Cross this weekend.
Friday saw us head to Harolds Cross for the Puppy Derby Semi finals with Millbank Stevie. Unfortunately due to severe weather which resulted in the hare rail flooding the meeting was abandoned half way through and will now be run this coming Friday.
At Limerick on Saturday we had 2 runners in the Bermingham / Hooper / Dolan / A1 600 Final . Hawaii Kinsale and Ardnacrusha Lady went into the final on the some fine runs in the opening rounds. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be on the evening for our runners. Hawaii Kinsale trapped well but was just beaten to the corner by Killinan Baby (eventual winner) and was forced to check over the back of her. This halted his progress round the opening turn and allowed the leader to skip loose, he stayed on for 3rd place.
At Cork we were looking to follow up last weekends fine runs and progress to the Semi Final stages of the Red Mills Laurels. Having set the standards last week with a brilliant 28.01 run, Vans Viking pushed himself to the top of the Ante Post betting market.
The second heat saw us with 3 runners in the same race. This time it was the turn of Sidarian Blaze, from an unfamiliar trap 5, to set the standard of the round when clinching a comprehensive victory in a fast 28.07. Not breaking brilliantly he powered to the first bend and rounded the turn in front where he was then able to drift back to a more familiar inside course. He showed great all round pace to score by 3.5 lengths. Coolavanny Pandy, in Trap 1, had navigated a safe passage round the opening turn and turned out the second bend third, where she stayed to progress to next week’s Semi Finals. General Wolf, running from Trap 2, was involved in the scrimmaging at the first bend and was shuffled to the back of the pack before running on to finish 4th.
Heat 3 saw Vans Viking, fresh from his breathtaking victory in the last round go to traps a warm favorite. However, he couldn’t get himself into an early lead and turned second behind the early paced 3 dog. Running well in second he was just pushed into 3rd spot on the run in, but still progresses to next week’s semi final.
In the final heat, veteran Cabra Buck, was slow into stride from trap rise and could not land a blow in this top class contest.
Elsewhere on the card, Rockburst Mills made a good impression in the Face Of Ireland 550 Open Race. Showing good track craft at the opening turn to hold her rails slot, then again around the last turn where she came away from the rails to pass, she stayed on strong to take victory in a good 29.80.
