It was a fantastic night at Tralee on Friday as both kennel representatives, in the GMHD Insurances Juvenile Stake, progressed into next week’s big final.

Sidarian Vega produced his worst start to date when breaking slowly in the opening Semi Final. At the back of the field, and riding a small bump from the 4 dog on the run up, he edged towards the middle of track entering the opening turn where there was a wall of traffic in front of him. Fortunately for him, this scrimmaging opened up a huge door on the rail. He needed no second invitation and showing great track craft for one so inexperienced, he seized his opportunity to get round the rails unscathed. Following the early leader out the second turn he showed excellent back straight pace to draw level at the 3rd bend before powering up the rails to score by a length in a good 28.58.

In the second Semi Final, Hovex Prince had finally landed an ideal trap draw. Breaking pretty level he lacked the yard of early to go with the early pace setters but moved up the rails nicely into the opening turn, holding his pitch around the opening turn he found himself held up slightly out the second bend. With the field now around him he looked to be boxed in with little racing room available. Showing intelligence at the third turn he switched to the outside of the field where he managed to find a nice run. Powering off the final turn he pushed the eventual winner close, going down by half a length in second spot.

Both have gone through the competition finishing first or second in their respective races and go to traps on Friday with a real shout of claiming victory. Here’s hoping to a memorable 1-2 for the kennels! Good luck to all finalists.
