Newinn Taylor maintained his unbeaten start to his career, making it 6 from 6, but was made to work hard for it and the title of O’Neill Dog Food Open Puppy 525 champion.

Facing a tricky draw in six, Newinn Taylor found himself, for the first time in his early career, slightly sluggish at the boxes. Despite this, the son of Droopys Buick and Newinn Expert displayed scintillating early pace to to lead the fast starting Ballymac Inspeed into the opening turns. Flying round the first turns, running a great bend, he had pulled into a two length lead before setting off down the far side. Building his lead up along the back he was looking in total control. However, as they turned for home, the fast finishing Ballymac Inspeed was closing on the Taylor and continued to make ground all the way to the line. However, the Simon Taylor’s owned star held the brave efforts of the challenger to record a wonderful victory, crossing the line with a neck advantage in 28.38.

It was the start of the Shelbourne Christmas Oaks and we came away with three qualifiers for the next round, which included victory for Fahrenheit Lor in Heat 4. A flying start saw her fly to the opening turn before cruising along in front happily. The Lorraine O’Sullivan owned lady maintained a strong gallop throughout, running out a comfortable five length winner over Ballymac Petsy in 28.36. Slippery Jade and O Mahoney finished third in their respective contests and progress to next week’s Second Round.

Down at Curraheen Park we had one runner and fortunately, one winner! Knocknarea Run put in a powerful run to take victory in the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust 525 A0 contest. Turning second he tracked the early leader along the far side, turning round the final turns he was edging ever closer before taking up the running out fourth. He came home well to land victory in 28.43, by three quarters of a length for owner Larry O’Rourke.
