It was another busy Saturday night where we had runners at Limerick in the Bermingham / Hooper / Dolan / A1 600 Stake and also in the opening round of the Connolly’s Red Mills Irish Laurels at Curaheen Park.
Ardnacrusha Lady was a 5 length winner of the opening heat of the Bermingham / Hooper / Dolan / A1 600 Stake. Leading from trap rise she never looked in trouble and cruised to a comfortable victory. The second heat saw us score another victory, this time Hawaii Kinsale obliged in the same fashion as Lady. Trapping smartly he soon got going and had his head in front within a few strides, he powered on to score by 6 lengths and recorded the fastest time of the opening round.
In the third heat, Silverhill Lucy trapped well and looked like she would get round the bend trouble free but approaching the turn the 2 dog managed to get up the inside and turned her sideways where she shuffled back the field. Unable to pick up the momentum needed she finished just out the qualifying spot. Final runner of the evening was Riverside Alice who lined up the the A1 550. Pacing up well she ran a great first bend to swoop round and fly out the second 4 – 5 lengths clear. Opening up a commanding lead down the back straight she came back to the field slightly on the run in but never looked in danger.
Over at Cork we had a full van for the opening round of the Red Mills Irish Laurels. General Wolf was first up for the kennels but he went down by half a length after making a mess of the box rise. He ran a great first bend to turn in contention and ran on strong to make it through to the second round. Holborn Junior and Ballymartin Ric were alongside each other in heat 6 but neither could strike a blow in a very tough heat. Heat 7 saw us doubly represented again with Vans Viking and Cabra Buck drawn together. Neither were sharp from trap rise and both were in trouble at the opening turn. However, Vans Viking showed good track craft to negotiate a way through the field and run on well for second place. Buck still progressed to the next round.
Elevenerife came in as a late reserve in Heat 9 and joined Coolavanny Pandy in the race. Both qualified from the heat with Coolavanny Pandy finishing 2nd and Elevenerife in 3rd spot to progress to the next round. Another heat with 2 of ours reps with Sidarian Blaze in with Quick Blaze. It would be Sidarian Blaze who would take the honors when leading out the opening turns to score a fast victory. Quick Blaze missed his break then found trouble at the second bend, being struck into by a faller, to hamper any chances he had of overcoming a less than favorable draw. Newinn Expert followed up her brilliant victory in the Waterford Oaks when scoring in the final heat of the evening. Trapping well she was quickly into stride and took command early. Running on to score a 4 length victory.
