Saturday saw the Best Car Parks Gold Cup Second Round at Shelbourne, and it turned out to be quite a successful evening for us as we turned out two heat winners on the night.

Proud Graham, Garryvoe Bobby and Clona Kid lined up in Heat 2 and it was the former who came out on top, leading home a kennel 1-2. Despite not breaking in blistering fashion, early pace got Proud Graham to the front at the bend, from here he opened up a crucial advantage from the pack. Garryvoe Bobby was beginning to power along the far side and begun to close down the leader. Holding his position round the final turns, Graham held off the challenge of the wide running Bobby on the run in to score by half a length.

Heat 3 saw Kiss and Hug steal the show again as he came home a superb winner in a brilliant 28.14, fastest of the round. Springing from traps, he held Good News to the corner before moving along the back straight furthering his advantage. Rounding the final turn he was in full control and went on to cross the line a length and half to the good.

The draws for the Semi Final hasn’t been kind to us and sees all three of our remaining challengers in the same race! 1. Droopys Punk, 2. Burgess Popeye, 3. Broadstrand Viny, 4. Kiss and Hug, 5.Garryvoe Bobby, 6. Proud Graham.

Clares Rocket had his first outing of the year in a pre-racing trial at Shelbourne on Saturday and despite breaking slowly, clocked a very respectable 18.72. Kennel companion Sonic also had a sprint trial and recorded 18.73. Both will now have another trial next week in advance of a potential tilt at the Easter Cup.
