We’ll be looking to close the year with a big bang on Saturday as we head to Shelbourne with runners in both the big finals there next weekend. Sisters, Ballydoyle Honey and Hovex Princess line up in the Christmas Oaks Final whilst Proud Graham represents us in the Comerford Cakes Final.

Ballydoyle Honey cruised into the Final with another supreme display of track craft and pure pace, taking the opening Semi Final in a breathtaking 28.02. Only fourth as she entered the far side she soon moved up through the gears, showing great track craft round the 3rd turn she cut through them like they were stood still. Taking up the running off the final turn she went on to record another scintillating time, another one of the fastest ever round Shelbourne.

The second Semi Final saw Hovex Princess battle hard to dead heat with Yahoo Perlena in a good 28.25. Tracking the early leader she was never giving up, coming off the final turn she rallied one last time to see her get up in the shadow of the post, with the judges unable to split them.

Honey and Princess are both members of the year’s talking litter, from Kidallon Maid. They were 1-2 in the Sporting Press Oaks earlier in the year and both bitches have been absolutely phenomenal all year. Ballydoyle Honey is simply one of the greats of all time and following the Puppy Oaks, Sporting Press Oaks  successes she’ll be looking to secure the hat-trick and will go to traps a warm favourite, and rightly so given the runs in previous weeks. However, some may say Hovex Princess’ form has been slightly overshadowed by her sister, but she lines up in her FIFTH Oaks Final of the year on merit. This is a brilliant achievement in itself. Having being grabbed on the line in the Sporting Press Oaks Final by Honey she then went on to contest the FFK Sires Southern Oaks (Youghal), Munster Oaks (Waterford) and was the Cork Oaks Runner Up. Both have been a pleasure to train for connections. We’ll be hoping for a clean run race where both ladies get their opportunity to run their best races.

The Comerford Cakes Semi Final saw Proud Graham continue his superb run of form as he made all from the boxes. Coming away smartly he was soon in control and led the opening turn. Powering along the far side he was in full control of the race and never looked like being caught. Crossing the line some four and a half lengths to the good in a brilliant 28.10.

The kennels are in good form at present with no fewer than 5 other winners over Friday and Saturday’s Sheblbourne meetings. Saturday saw Clares Queen take the honours in the opener, an A1 575 contest. She led at the opening turn and went on to win comfortably by three and a half lengths. Coran Sky returned to winning ways as he showed superior back straight pace to take up the running at the third turn to win in 28.55 in a tough A1. The previous night had seen us hit a hat trick with Clares Rocket winning impressively in 28.35, Cabra Ash battling for his win in the A2 575 before Riverside Oscar took the A1 525.
