Last weekend saw 4 of the kennel youngsters progress to the Second Round of the Comerford Cakes Juvenile Open 525 at Shelbourne.

Jo Jo Fantasy showed brilliant determination to overcome a huge deficit to take victory in Heat 5. Heading into the third turn he was still six lengths down on the leader, entering the final turns he was galloping strongly and wore the leader down to go on to a 3/4 length success in a very good 28.37 time. Rackethall Ruler, who was making his racing debut qualified in 4th spot and will come on bundles for racing experience. Proud Graham is another youngster open to big improvement with experience, he qualified in 3rd spot in his heat after trouble at the opening turn. Lauren Champ also takes his place, having led for much of the way he went down by half a length in his heat.

Looking ahead to the weekend and we have a very busy night at Shelbourne with no fewer than 10 runners on Saturday. As well as the Comerford Cakes Juvenile Second Round there is the Gain Feeds Christmas Oaks where we have 6 entries. It is a brilliant renewal of the competition which sees the countries best bitches on show.

The Sporting Press Irish Oaks Champion, Ballydoyle Honey (Heat 4), and Runner Up, Hovex Princess (Heat 5) both take their place in the opening round. They are joined Clares Queen (Heat 1), Skywalker Pearl (Heat 2). Heat 3 sees 2 of the kennel do battle with Sidarian Nell and Rural Maui going head to head in a tough all round race.

Nights like Saturday it’s important to remember qualification is the name of the game, anything else is a bonus.
