Friday saw the second round of the Puppy Derby taking place at Harolds Cross. Our two representatives had both made it through the opening round and lined up in separate heats on the night.

Hooverville, who qualified as one of the fastest losers in the first round, was unlucky on the night. Breaking pretty much level with the field he paced up well and looked to be about to edge round the opening turn relatively safely in among the crowded field. Just as he appeared to have rode the crowding he had his back end stood on and dragged down which shuffled him back to 3rd. Straightening up out the second turn he still looked to secure a safe passage before then being chopped up a the half way mark which put him back the field.

Millbank Stevie had looked like he was going to be eliminated in the opening round when being bought to a complete stand still at the 3rd turn. However he picked himself up and ran on brilliantly for 3rd place on the night to qualify. Breaking much better this week, he showed great all round pace to lead home a strong field in a fast 28.61 (-30). It was a brilliant, professional, performance for a youngster only having his 7th race.
