We had a very strong hand heading in to the Larry O’Rourke National Produce Stakes Semi Final stages at Clonmel on Friday evening and we are delighted to have walked away having secured four of the six finalists due to line up next week.
The opening Semi Final saw Doolin Duke maintain his fine run of form as he took the honours here. Newinn Session, many peoples favourite for outright honours, was unable to re-produce last week’s flying start and found himself impeded early, and all the way to the opening turns, putting paid to his chances. In contrast, Doolin Duke flew out of trap 6 and had a dream run to take the early initiative. Flying along the far side, Duke maintained his early advantage before turning for home and crossing the line in 28.39, a length and a half in front of Epic Hero. Kennel mate, Romeo Speedy ran on to take the 3rd and final qualifying spot.
The second Semi Final was a similar affair, this time Newinn Taylor burst from traps and showed breath-taking early speed to establish an unassailable lead. Rathcoole Fox held his racing line at the opening turn to hug the rails and avoid trouble outside him before chasing home Taylor. Landing the victory by four lengths in 28.49, Taylor stretched his unbeaten run to 11 wins in 11 career starts.
The draw for the Final : 1. Doolin Duke, 2. Rathcoole Fox, 3. Epic Hero, 4. Romeo Speedy, 5. Jacks Solution, 6. Newinn Taylor
