Newinn Taylor secured his place in next week’s Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby Final with a superb, foot perfect display, that saw him produce one of the best performances of his career to date.

The Simon Taylor owned star, burst from traps and dominated the early contest to the bend with his customary early speed and opened up a comfortable three and half length lead from the main rival, Ballymac Cooper. Increasing his lead further with some beautiful bend running he flew along the far side extending his advantage further into the final turns. Turning for home, the chasing pack started to close slightly and despite the best efforts of Cooper, Taylor crossed the line two and a half lengths in front in a brilliant 29.13.

The second Semi Final saw our other runner Indesatchel unfortunately eliminated as the other market principle Pestana claimed victory. Indesatchel has performed with credit throughout the competition and has given his proud owners, the Pillar Syndicate, a wonderful journey.

Final Draw : 1. Ballymac Wild, 2. Meenagh Miracle, 3. Kilara Icon, 4. Pestana, 5. Ballymac Cooper, 6. Newinn Taylor

Earlier in the card, The Michael Fortune Memorial Plate Semi Finals showed the real ups and downs of greyhound racing within the space of 15 minutes. The opening Semi Final saw Ballyhimikin Jet fly from traps and with the race seemingly at his mercy, disaster struck as he suffered a significant hock injury at the opening turn. He was made comfortable at the track before visiting the vets on the way home. He had his hock realigned and was fitted with a temporary cast, he will undergo an operation to repair the damage on Monday.

However, the second Semi Final was in stark contrast to the despair of the opener as Black Parachute led home Sweep The Yard to land a great 1-2 for the team. Breaking smartly both Black Parachute and Sweep The Yard forged to the front early, leading the way round the opening turn Parachute was always going to be very difficult to pass from here on. The strong running son of Ballydoyle Honey cruised along in front despite, and the best efforts of Sweep The Yard to reel him in, came home three lengths in front in 29.40.

The final race of the evening saw Newinn Sheedy a somewhat fortunate winner as he was left in front at the 3rd turn with the early leader falling. Once in front Sheedy eased away to record a two length victory in 28.44. Pleased to be able to report the faller in the race walked off the track.
