Project Description

It’s the Quarter Final stages of the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby 2017 and we have a remarkable 8 runners left in the competition.

Winners Time : 29.61

Sonic remained unbeaten in the competition with another exhibition of all round pace and power. Running a brave and determined opening bend he forced his way to the front and from here on he was in total command of the race. Powering along the far side he opened up a long advantage before powering up the home straight to finish eight and a half lengths in front.

Clona Kid and Drive On Tipp encountered traffic problems and were eliminated in 4th and 5th respectively. Both bow out with a very respectable Quarter Final finish to their names.

Winners Time : 29.44

Sidarian Fern finished back in 6th spot here but has had a fantastic Derby campaign and bows out with her head held high. Breaking well enough, she started to edge middle from traps but was held up, encountering more trouble at the first bend she was shuffled tt the rear of the field. In this class and company there was no coming back and she was eliminated. She now has the Oaks in her sight which start in 10 days.

Winners Time : 29.68

Black Farren scored his first win of his Derby Campaign as he took the third Quarter Final with a fine display of strong running. Tracking the early leaders round the opening turn, he held his position on the rails perfectly, showing good back straight pace he took up the running on the inside at the third bend. Asserting from here, he kicked on and powered up the straight, beating Tyrur Harold by two lengths.

Droopys Cabaye had been the proverbial meat in the sandwich on the run up and was eliminated in 5th spot. He’s had a fantastic Derby campaign, unbeaten until this stage, which saw his reputation enhanced with every run.

Winners Time : 29.59

This was an interesting race where the lead changed on a number of occasions. Clares Rocket failed to produce his slick exit from the traps and found himself in unfamiliar territory; behind entering the opening turn. Powering along the far side he drew himself back into contention, and challenging for the lead, before being forced to check the 3rd bend. Despite checking, he managed to get going again and took up the running on the run in, looking like he would grab the victory he was collared on the line by the fast finishing Good News.

Hovex Mick ran a solid race back in 4th spot, missing out on a qualification spot by 3/4 length, and is another who has performed admirably throughout his Derby campaign.
