Despite the obvious disappointment of missing out in the final of the Con & Anne Kirby Memorial Trophy last week we are still hugely proud of how Rural Hawaii performed throughout the competition and in the final itself. Being runner up in the biggest puppy competition is a great achievement and he ran his heart out on the night which is all we can ask. Congratulations to all connected with Cable Bay who produced when it mattered most. We’re sure we’ll be doing battle again further down the line! We now move on and look to continue to build on our early year successes so far.

Hovex Prince won in impressive fashion last weekend at Shelbourne. Showing improved early pace he was soon in command of the race and moved well to score by eight and a half lengths in a very good 28.46. He now moves on to the final of the Barking Buzz( A1/A2 this weekend, where he will have every chance if reproducing this sort of run. Warrior Gwen produced a big run to take the Fundraising Nights in Shelbourne Park A1 Final. Breaking well, she had a dream run up the rails and took full advantage. Battling for the lead into the opening turn she took up the running out the second and never looked back. Staying on well she won by three lengths in 28.84.

Wednesday saw us (well, Nicky!!) head to England with 4 triallers ahead of the English Derby Campaign. All went reasonably well at a track many consider difficult to run first time. Gaytime Hawk and Coran Sky are future possibles for our team, as is Clares Wonder who is just returning from injury. However, Sidarian Vega won’t be making the journey following injury in a recent trial.

Looking ahead to the weekend

Looking ahead to the weekend and we have 2 runners in the The Irish Independent Laurels at Curraheen Park. Coran Sky lines up in Heat 5 before Gaytime Hawk takes his place in Heat 9. First 3 qualify from each heat so these early rounds are about avoiding trouble and safely progressing. That said, both have chances to take victory and are there to win.

At Shelbourne we have another busy night with 8 runners. Hovex Prince lines up in the Barking Buzz( A1/A2 525 Final. Olivias Hope will be looking to grab an early lead to build on in an A1 contest. Riverside Gold has a much better draw in the Healthcare & Transport Services A2 525 Final. Rackethall Royal then lines up in an nice little competition, The Ted Hegarty Bookmaker A1 Tri Distance, the opening round is over 550y. In Heat 3, Warrior Gwen will have to be in top form in a very tough heat. Skywalker Pearl looks to start better then last week in a good A1. Any sort of reasonable break and she’ll be running on strongly to press any early leader. The opening Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Open 550 Semi-Final sees Calzaghe Clampet in Trap 2, all top class dogs here as you’d expect. The second Semi Final sees Tolpuddle Mist line up. First three to qualify for next week’s final.
