It was another fabulous weekend of top class Boylesports Irish Derby action at Shelbourne where we walked away with some nice winners but as importantly, more qualifiers.

Friday evening’s Heats saw the team hit a double as Newinn Lester and Newinn Sheedy took their respective contests. Newinn Lester, not long having celebrated his 4th birthday, continues to perform at the very highest level in the sport as he recorded his 18th career victory on his way to victory in Heat 2. Challenging the early leader along the back straight he showed all of his racing experience to drive the third bend to cease the lead. Keeping on well he came home a length and a half in front in 29.42. Newinn Sheedy followed up his opening round success with another performance from the top drawer. Flying from traps he opened up a healthy advantage that put him in full control of the contest. Maintaining a powerful gallop throughout he came home an impressive four and a half length victory in a rapid 29.29.

On the Friday undercard, Lollypop Man produced a sensational display to give the team a nice hat-trick on the evening as he scorched round in 28.06.

Onto Saturday evening and just the one winner for the team, but as mentioned earlier, plenty of qualifiers. We had to wait until the very final Heat where Feudal Spirit led home kennel mate Lenson Bocko with a polished, professional performance. Landing his seventh win in ten starts, Feudal Spirit broke smartly to lead Bocko into the bend, with Bocko in chase Spirit maintained his advantage up front as they moved along the far side. Round the final two turns it looked like Bocko was starting to edge closer but as they turned for home Spirit kept his rival at bay to score by two lengths in a good 29.29. The draw for the Third Round was made after racing and can be seen below, click on the images to expand form.
