It was a fantastic nights racing at Shelbourne on Saturday where the highlight was the Boylesports Irish Derby Final, bringing to a close a brilliant 6 week journey for connections of Black Farren and Sonic who lined up in the final.
Although beaten on the evening, by the foot perfect Good News, Black Farren and Sonic both ran with huge credit as they finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. It’s a brilliant achievement to make the Final and both dogs gave their absolute all on the night, and all through the competition.
Black Farren ran another brilliant race for the Lionheart Syndicate and challenged Good News all the way to the line finishing second by two lengths. Sonic, making his second Derby Final for owner Pat Maloney, had encountered a bit of bumping on the first corner and was unable to reel in the two in front of him, going down a further two lengths behind. The winning time was the fastest in a final for over 30 years, showing you the quality of the runs by all finalists.
We would like to say a huge congratulations to trainer Pat Guilfoyle and all connections of Good News who produced a brilliant performance to be crowned Irish Derby Champion 2017!
