We headed to Tralee on Friday evening with four representatives remaining in the GMHD Insurances Juvenile Classic.
The opening heat saw first round winner, Newinn Blake, drawn in alongside kennel mate Nice Charmer. Breaking well it was Newinn Blake that marginally led into the opening turn, being pressed early by Bellmore Jagger on the inside. Holding his position round the opening turn he was able to accelerate out the 2nd bed and pull away from his rival. Looking smooth throughout he came home three lengths to the good in 28.58. Nice Charmer ran a good race in behind the early leaders to qualify in 3rd spot.
Our next runners were also paired together, this time in Heat 3. Ballycoewn Jake and Slippy Cian were drawn next door to one another in traps One and Two. Both runners missed the trap rise and faced a difficult passage round the opening turn. Turning some four lengths behind the early leader it was Slippy Cian who emerged from the pack to lay down a challenge along the far side. Closing on the leader he was forced to check his stride slightly as he attempted to pass round the final turns. This didn’t deter him and this powerful galloper kept going to get up on the line to grab victory in 28.74. Ballycowen Jake was unable to get a clear run in behind and finished last.
