Friday saw the opening round of the GMHD Insurances Juvenile Classic at Tralee where we had team of five youngsters competing.

The opening Heat saw Ballycowen Jake line up, unfortunately his chance of winning the race was over as soon as the traps opened, as he was baulked within the opening strides. Never giving up and showing great heart he managed to grab 4th place in the end.

Newinn Blake took his place in the Heat 2 and he produced a very polished performance for a novice. Leading up early on the outside of the track, he had a complete solo run. Never looking like stopping, he powered his way round to win comfortably by five lengths in 28.66.

Heat 4 saw Fahrenheit Daz make his debut. He broke well but finding himself crowded at the opening turn he was shuffled to the rear of the pack. Running very novicey he couldn’t make an impression in a high quality unraced contest.

Slippy Cian went in Heat 5, riding a bump at the opening turn he showed good pace to keep in touch with the early leader along the far side. Showing good track craft round the final turns he switched to the inside and found the racing room to take up the running into the home straight. Running on strong he crossed the line a length to the good, recording a good time of 28.50.

The sixth and final Heat saw Nice Charmer lining up for the team. He paced up well in a midfield slot, slight bumping round the 2nd turn shuffled him back slightly and he was unable to be competitive in a very hot heat which was won in 28.18. He eventually finished 4th.
