The First Round of action of the 2019 Star Sports, Arc & LPS Greyhound Derby is now complete and we started in fine fashion, landing four winners and another three qualifiers.

Friday evening started well when Clonbrien Prince was a powerful victor in Heat 5, looming up on the outside along the far side he hit the front at the crest of the third bend, pulling away he went on to claim honours in 29.70 by five and three quarters. Nice Charmer was then a comfortable winner of Heat 13 as he produced a good display of early pace to take control at the opening turn, powering on he crossed the line four and a quarter in front in 29.96.

The hat trick of winners on Friday was completed with Wolfe prevailing from a scintillating buckle with reigning champion, Dorotas Wildcat. It was a tussle where the trap draw was decisive in giving Wolfe the inside line which he took full advantage of. The two powerhouses went into the opening turns together and then blow for blow along the far side before Wolfe just edged into the lead entering the third bend. Holding his rails pitch he extended his lead before holding Wildcat at bay on the run in to come out on top by a length and half in 29.54. It was a fitting close to a brilliant evening’s racing.

Saturday evening was another night of brilliant racing but with a few more shocks thrown in. Unfortunately for us we didn’t get the luck where it mattered which led to the elimination of three of the team here. We did have one winner on the evening as Lenson Blinder handled the long wait til the very last race to produce a performance worth waiting for. Showing great early he was soon in control and exerted his dominance, pushing them hard throughout he ran out a six length victor in 29.46.

The draw for the Second Round was made on Monday and has thrown up more exciting clashes. The draw sees us with five runners on Friday evening with the remaining two lining up on Saturday. The full draws and form for the runners can be seen below. Click on images to expand.
