The dust has settled on the opening round of the Boylesports Irish Derby after two exciting evening’s of racing at Shelbourne Park and we’re pleased to have 12 lining up in the Second Round next weekend.
Friday evening saw us come away with plenty of qualifiers and the one winner where Indestchel opened his account with a determined showing. Having gone close last week, finishing 2nd, he went one better and there are fewer better occasions to land your first career success than in a Derby heat. Holding his inside pitch at the 3rd turn he moved nicely into the lead, staying on well he went on to score by a length and a half from Athlacca Zette in 29.51.
Saturday evening’s heats saw us leave with a superb hat-trick of winners and more qualifiers safely into the next round. Feudal Spirit is in good form at the moment and he landed his third win on the bounce as he took Heat 16. Racing hard with the early challengers he took control of the contest round the final turns going on to score by a length and half in 29.71. Ballyhimikin Jet landed a quick race double as he prevailed in Heat 17. Wolfe showed glimpses of his old self as he set the early pace before Ballyhimikin Jet reeled him in off the fourth bend before pulling away to a three length success from his kennel compatriot. Jet stopped the clock in a solid 29.58. There was no luck for Newinn Session or Black Parachute who hampered each other at the bend in same race. The hat-trick on the evening was completed as Newinn Sheedy led early on, taking control of the contest in the opening turns, before keeping on well to a length and half win in good 29.47.
The draw for the second round was made after racing on Saturday evening and has thrown up more top quality races for us to tackle. The full form can be seen on the IGB site by clicking here. Heats 1-8 will be run on Friday and 9-16 on Saturday. The draw for our remaining runners is listed below.
