2015 has started as busy as 2014 ended with plenty of runners at Clonmel over the last couple nights ahead of their Festival of Racing at the end of the month. The youngsters and novices have taken center stage and there’s a few to keep a close eye on.

Thursday saw us with 3 entries in the Red Mills Unraced Stake; one of the best in the country for unearthing top dogs for the year ahead.

Riverside Gold was our only winner on the night when taking his heat. After a slow start he paced up well to move into a prominent position at the first turn. Tracking cleverly, keeping a middle to wide course, he showed scintillating back straight pace to take control of the race. He stayed on well to record victory by three and half lengths.

Ballydoyle Honey showed great all round pace to qualify in second place in her heat. After a very sluggish start. Moving across to the rails at the first turn she had to switch to the outside to get round the 5 dog. Showing good back straight pace she ran on to take second spot and qualify for the next round.

Sunday night was the turn of the more experienced youngsters in a variety of stakes.

In the Boylesports Hero @ Stud A1/A2 Puppy 525 opening round, Warrior Gwen recorded the fastest time of the heats when clocking a calculated 29.08 and winning by a length and half. A messy race saw her find trouble at the opening turn but ran a good 3rd bend to take up the running before crossing the line a length and half to the good. Cabra Mufasa made it 4 on the night for the kennel when leading all the way in his heat of the A1/A2 Puppy Stake. Trapping well he never looked in danger, crossing the line two lengths to the good.

Voodoo Angel overcame a terrible start, when baulking at trap rise to run the early leader close, only going down by a length and a half in the opening heat of the Zero Ten @ Stud/T.S.C. A3/A4 Bitch Stake. Riverside Blacky, went one better in the second heat when she was an impressive four length winner. Leading at the 3rd turn she went on to the win comfortably.
